The Benedict Volunteers Fire Department and Rescue Squad would like to congratulate our newest NREMT Amanda Howard

Amanda successfully completed the MFRI(Maryland Fire Rescue Institute) and NREMT (National Registry EMT) EMT class. This is a course that all interested members must take if they would like to run EMS calls and treat patients with our department. This course consists of 165 hours of lecture and practical evolutions. The objective of this course is to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform emergency medical care in a pre-hospital environment at the basic life support level.

Learning Outcome: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to recognize, assess, and manage medical and trauma signs and symptoms in patients of emergency situations, determine and use appropriate equipment for patient management and care, communicate and work with other emergency service personnel in the care, transport and transfer of patients and maintain patient and department records. Each written module examination must be passed with a score of 70% or better. Each practical module examination must be passed according to a checklist based on U.S. DOT requirements. At the conclusion of the MFRI portion of the program, a written and practical certification examination will be administered by MIEMSS.

Course Content: Major topics include legal aspects of emergency care, infection control, patient assessment, the respiratory system, oxygen adjuncts and delivery, CPR, AED, bleeding control and management of soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal injuries and management, spinal immobilization, pediatric and obstetric emergencies, crisis intervention, multiple casualty and triage management, ambulance operations, and EMS systems.

Methods of Instruction: Lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, case studies, audio/visual material, skills practical scenarios and modular written and practical examinations.

Join us in Congratulating Amanda on a job well done.
