In the early hours of Wednesday morning Rescue Engine 5-2 (Capt. Stephens) and Ambulance 5-8 (EMS Capt. Van Slyke) were dispatched for a MVA on the Benedict Bridge on the Calvert County side. At 0155 hrs. they responded to the middle of the bridge to find a single vehicle MVA and a two vehicle head on MVA. Calvert Squad 2, Chief 2, and Ambulance 4-7 also responded. Calvert Chief 2 inquired about the conditions of the bridge and if Company 2 units were needed. The snow had changed to sleet, causing the bridge to be very icy and difficult to navigate. It was decided to place Company 2 units in service due to the ice conditions on the bridge and the high volume of motor vehicle accidents occurring due to the storm. One patient was transported by Calvert Amb. 4-7. Company 5 units remained on scene until 0316 hours, until all vehicles and debris were removed from the bridge.

Thanks to the crews who staffed the station during the storm.
