Benedict Runs Barn Fire in Hughesville

On Sunday, January 12, 2014, at 02:55, Benedict was alerted for the working barn fire located at Emory Place off of Oaks Road. Engine 5-1(F. Griffin IV) responded with 4 personnel. Engine 23 arrived on scene with a fully involved working barn fire. Command held it with Engine 23, St. Mary’s Engine 23, and Squad 3. All other units staged at the intersection of Emory Place and Oaks Road. Engine 143 was assigned water supply. After 20 minutes of staging, Engine 5-1 and 101 sent their personnel up to the scene to relieve crews already working. When both crews arrived, the firefighters began overhaul operations. 5-1 operated a 1 ¾ line to hit the hot spots. Crew removed debris and continued hitting the hot spots. Once the scene was controlled, Engine 51 returned to service at 05:16.
