On August 30, 2014, Benedict (along with other volunteer stations) participated in the March from Benedict War of 1812 events. On the 30th, events were held at the Maxwell Hall House and on Serenity Farm. On the 31st, the events were held at Serenity Farms and in the town of Benedict. Between 1,000 and 1,500 people attended the March from Benedict events, including the more than 700 people who visited Maxwell Hall on Saturday to witness the 1812 wedding of Dicandia Ireland Smith to Clement Dorsey along with craft and blacksmithing demonstrations. Volunteer Firefighters and EMT’s provided medical coverage for the entire event. The event was planned a month in advance to provide adequate coverage. During the event, 1 medical emergency was reported due to the heat and the patient was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. This weekend was a successful weekend and stands as a testament of the hard work and dedication provided by the volunteer’s to guarantee the safety of the community. Thank you to all the departments that helped staff the event with 100% volunteers.
