On May 21st, 2015, the Charles County Cadet Class held their 19th annual banquet and awards ceremony. La Plata Volunteer Fire Department hosted the event. During the event there were presentations made by political, educational and fire department leaders. During the presentations, awards were given to the cadets that finished in the top ranks of each discipline taught during the year as well as a few other recognition awards. Benedict’s own Zach Hooper, son of Life Member Gary Hooper was presented with many awards. For the different disciplines he was presented with Top Fire Cadet, Top HAZMAT Cadet, Top EMT Cadet and Top Rescue Cadet. County Commissioner President, Peter Murphy also presented Zach with a certificate from the county commissioners recognizing him as the Top Cadet overall in the class.

Zach’s final award is one that is very close to the hearts of all the members of the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. The Hutchinson family presented Zach with the Justin Hutchinson Memorial Award and Scholarship. Justin Hutchinson was a member of Benedict when he was killed by a drunk driver. This award is presented to the top performer in the Cadet Class each year.

The members of Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad are extremely proud of Zach and all of his accomplishments over the last year. Keep up the outstanding work Zach!
