Passing of Charter Member, Charles Neal Henderson

The Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad regrets to announce the passing of Charter Member, Charles Neal Henderson.

Charles Neal Henderson, 95, of Benedict, MD passed away on October 11, 2015 at Sagepoint Senior Living Center in La Plata, MD.

He was born on January 7, 1920 in Benedict Maryland to the late Peter C. Henderson and the late Louise Reid Henderson. Charles joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving as Seaman Second Class. He was a Charter member of the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and also a Mason at the St. Columbia Masonic lodge #150 in La Plata. He enjoyed being with family, his dog snoopy, and traveling during his retirement years. He and his father were the owner/operators of The Henderson Ferry which transported vehicles across the Patuxent River until the Benedict Bridge was built in 1951.

Charles was predeceased by his parents; his wife June Shaw Henderson and his son, Peter “Pete” Henderson. He is survived by his sons, William “Bill” Henderson (Janice), Thomas “Tommy” Henderson (Tina); grandchildren, Amber Wargo, Joey, Brent, Kenny and Brian Henderson; great grandchildren, Carson, Chloe, Caragan Wargo, and Beau Henderson.

Family will receive friends for Charles’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with Masonic Prayers at 7pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A funeral service will be on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 10:00a.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. A reception will be held at the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department immediately following.
