At approx.1630 hours, Benedict and surrounding units were dispatched for a commercial building fire at River's Edge Restaurant on Benedict Avenue. 51 (with 2) arrived on scene to find the structure with fire through the roof. Deployed the 400' 2-inch line to side alpha, due to deteriorating conditions, proceeded with exterior operations only. Chief 2 Dean arrived on scene and established command. Additional units from neighboring departments arrived to assist, and had fire under control in approx 30 minutes. Crews operated for approx 3 hours, performing overhaul operations and extinguishing hot spots. Fire is believed to have been caused by improperly discarded smoking materials and damage estimates around 1 million dollars. Many thanks to all the departments and crews who operated on the scene.
