Congratulations to Donald "Smitty" Smith on his induction into the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association Hall of Fame and receipt of the 50 Years of Service Award.
Donald has dedicated a lifetime to fire and rescue services beginning in 1948 with Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and transferring to Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in 1951. Throughout his tenure, Donald has received multiple awards and held several positions, including Firefighter, Chief Engineer, Board of Directors member, and Driver Trainer with the department. He remains an active participant, consistently attending business meetings and serving up food at department events.
