On August 9, 2006 at 1004 hrs. Calvert Communications dispatched Engine Company 5, Tanker 5, and Ambulance 5-8 along with other units from Calvert to Commercial Box 205 for the possible commercial building fire in the 5500 block of Ketch Rd. in the Calvert Industrial Park. Calvert Engine 21 arrived on scene side Delta, with nothing evident and all occupants evacuated. Chief 6-B arrived and assumed the Command. The crew from Calvert Engine 21 advanced an attack line into the structure and found the building to be charged with smoke and a Material Collections System on fire. Due to the amount of smoke within the structure and the potential for heavy extension, Command requested a second alarm, and advised all incoming units to stage on Ketch Rd. Rescue Engine 5-2 arrived on scene and connected to the hydrant on side Alpha. Engine 5-2's crew then proceeded to secure utilities. With the use of a thermal imager, the crew began checking for fire extension, with no extension found. Due to the amount of smoke, crews ventilated the building. After performing overhaul operations, units proceeded to go in service with the authority of Command. Many thanks to Baden Engine 362 for filling in at Company 5 during this incident.
