Benedict House Burn

By EMS Lieutenant Katie Van Slyke
November 8, 2006

On Wednesday November the 8th, approximately 25 members gathered to burn a small house in our first due. The drill gave probationary members a sense of how a real incident would operate and how much work goes into it. It also gave the more experienced memebers a chance to brush up on their skills. The members set up the drill house the week before; cleaning out glass shards and boarding the windows. The house was lit, call dispatched over the training channel and members "responded" from the station. Eventually the house was allowed to burn completely down after completing several evolutions. Thanks to all the members who helped prep for the drill and those who participated.

During the drill the ambulance ran a call. They were quickly placed in service. Just as everyone sat down to eat after the drill, Amb. 5-8 responded to Calvert Medical box 205. While they were gone Engine 5-2 responded to PG County for a house fire. Engine 5-3 was placed in service and PG requested it be added on the call as well.

Units: Eng. 5-3, 5-2, 5-4, Amb. 5-8, Chief 5, and Chief 5b
