On January 24th, 2007 at 1400hrs Company 5 was alerted for mutual aid to Calvert county for the house fire at 1401 Clay Hammond Rd. Rescue Engine 5-2 responded within 1 minute of dispatch with 5 volunteers on board. While enroute, Lt. 6 from Huntingtown VFD arrived on location finding a 2 story, single family dwelling, with heavy smoke showing. Chief 2 arrived shortly thereafter and assumed the Clay Hammond Rd. Command. Engine 21 arrived and laid out from the street. The crew from Engine 21 advanced an attack line through the first floor and into the basement. An aggressive interior attack was made, knocking down the bulk of the fire. Engine 62 arrived and picked up Engine 21's line. Squad 6 arrived and began ventilating, securing utilities, and performing the primary search of all floors which proved negative. Rescue Engine 5-2 and Tanker 7 arrived and were advised by Command to stage on Clay Hammond. After staging for a short period of time, Command requested the crew from the Rescue Engine to report to the fireground. The crew assisted in the large amount of salvage and overhaul of the basement. The fire managed to alligator walk through the floor joists, which proved difficult to extinguish. Units finished mopping up the hot spots and returned to quarters at 1700 hours.
