On 6/18/2007 9 Charleston South Carolina Fire Fighters were killed in the line of duty during a furniture warehouse fire. It is believed that due to the heavy fire load within the building that the conditions deteriorated extremely fast causing the roof to fail. The Benedict VFD&RS would like to send our deepest condolences to the families of those who perished in the horrific fire. We are also asking for the assistance of the public by keeping the families in your prayers. Also, if you would like to donate towards the families of the fire fighters, contact the Charleston South Carolina fire department and they should be able to direct you to the right people.
To the fire fighters who risk their lives everyday remember to be safe and go home in the same condition you left in.
