On May 1st and 2nd, the members of the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad participated in the 63rd Annual Southern Maryland Firemen's Association Convention and Parade. The convention was hosted at Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department this year. Members spent several days leading up to the parade cleaning and detailing the apparatus showing a lot of pride in our units. Early that morning, Engine 5-3 and Tanker 5 responded on a working house fire in Prince Frederick. After the fire the members were back at the station putting the final touches on the equipment and cleaning the Tanker once again. After the parade the members had a lot of fun participating in some of the competitions that were held, such as " the Battle of the Buckets" ( Chief Engineer B. Robertson, F/F M. Ruslander, F/F J. Willet) and "Tug of war" ( President B. Cusick, Chief Engineer B. Robertson, , F/F F. Griffin, F/F M. Ruslander, F/F B. Griffin, F/F M. Newman, , F/F J. Willet, and Auxiliary member C. Demarr). The tug of war team made it all the way to the finals, but lost to Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department. After the day was all said and done the members walked away proud with "Second Best Appearing Ambulance". A Special thanks to Prince Frederick Volunteer Rescue Squad and their members for loaning us an Ambulance during the parade.
