By Fire Sergeant Mitchell Ruslander
March 20, 2011

At Aprox. 0012 hours on March 20th, Benedict volunteers were alerted to Calvert County for a house fire. Engine 5-3 (Sgt.Ruslander) arrived on scene to find that evacuation tones had already been sounded and it had been turned into a exterior attack. Benedict's crew took a cross lay off of the first arriving engine to the front door of the house and assisted with the fire supression. Prior to Benedict's arrival on the scene, the first and second arriving companys experienced heavy fire and unexpected conditions that resulted in multiple injured firefighters. All companys and crews worked together for aproximately 7 hours to extinguish the fire and overhaul of the scene. Benedict Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the injured firefighters and wish them a speedy recovery.

Units: Engine 53, Tanker 5, Ambulance 58
