Ribbon Cutting for Helicopter Pad

By Firefighter/EMT-B Katie Van Slyke
October 3, 2004

On October 3, 2004 Engine 5-2 and Tanker 5 stood by while Trooper 7 landed on a newly built helicopter pad. The new helicopter pad was built by a member of the community seeking to receive his eagle scout. Many of the members of Boy Scout Troop 404(Andrews Air Force Base) were also there during the ribbon cutting ceremony to support their fellow scout; they also had a hand in building the new pad. The field where the pad was built is frequently used to land helicopters when they are needed. It is conviently located between Benedict and Hughesvile Fire Department and Rescue Squads. Thank you to the members who helped make this day special and to Trooper 7. Good luck to the young man on achieving his eagle scout award on behalf of Benedict VFD/RS.

Units: Engine 5-2, Tanker 5, Chief 5-A

Mutual Aid: Trooper 7
