By EMS Sergeant Katie Van Slyke
July 4, 2005

On July 4th, 2005 units from Benedict, Hughesville, Prince Frederick, Charles County and other various special services were dispatched to the Patuxent River for a boating accident, shortly after the Solomons Island fireworks display had ended. Boat 5 arrived to find a boat had collided with a commercial fishing net and 6 people thrown overboard. Chief 5 (R. Hill) assumed the Patuxent River Command. Three of the victims swam back to the boat and two were rescued by the crew from Boat 5. While enroute back to awaiting EMS units the crew on the boat determined the two patients were seriously injured. Both patients were flown to area trauma centers by MSP. Unfortunately, one of boat passengers sustained injuries incompatable to life. Our condolences go out to the family.

Units: Eng. 5-2, Boat 5, Amb. 5-8, Chief 5
